The year 2020 was to be a great year. Many people said it has to be better than the previous one. Things couldn’t get worse than they were in 2019, or could they? But here we are just four short months into the new year and we are in the middle of a world crisis that is affecting every single person on this planet, young and old, male and female, rich or poor. We are all in this thing together. This pandemic is the great equalizer.

We as humans are a thick lot, hard-headed, slow learners. We have a hard time learning from our mistakes and keep having to repeat the lesson until we do learn what it is we need to learn. Thus this pandemic that has been thrust upon us. It has our attention, will we learn from it’s lesson? Interesting that this is happening in the year 2020. Are we finally having 2020 vision?

Earth has had this happen many times in its history, a massive world-wide pandemic that decimates the population. Everything happens in cycles, it is part of the nature of the Universe. Viruses on this level happen approximately every hundred years or so on this planet. The last major one was the Spanish Flu of 1918. Of course, who can forget what has been read about in the history books about the Bubonic Plague?

The Bubonic Plague or the ‘Black Death’ as it had been known, swept through Europe in the 14th century between the years 1346 to 1353, killing an estimated 50 million people. That was about sixty per cent of the population at that time!

Why do I bring up these past pandemics? How could it be any different today than it was in our past? It is different this time and that may not be such a bad thing in the long run. Maybe we will finally learn the lesson we need to learn. What makes it different in the year 2020 is technology. Specifically, social media. Let me explain.

In the world of social media, this huge planet of nearly 8 billion people, has become a smaller place, much smaller. The human race is growing, but the world seems to be getting smaller due to this technology. In the 18thcentury, less than two hundred fifty years ago, it took up to two to three months to travel from Europe to the Americas by sea. Back then, if you wanted to communicate with someone, you had to send a letter that would take time to get there. Many of us are old enough to remember that we didn’t always have computers in our lifetime. We, too, had to communicate by snail mail in the latter part of the past century. The technology we enjoy today is fairly new in comparison to just a few short decades ago.

How has this evolution of technology made Earth seem so small? By connecting everyone and everything. We are all interconnected, we just haven’t realized it. Quantum Mechanics has proven this to be true. Many walk around totally disconnected from their awareness of their Oneness with all of creation. It is all about ‘me’ and what I can get for myself, when we should be living for one another. After all, we are one another.

For those of you who are religious and may be questioning what I am saying, let me remind you what the teacher from Nazareth has been recorded as saying. When praying for his disciples he asked for them to understand that they are all One, even as he and the Father (Universe) are One. Then in Ephesians it says, “One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” You ARE the Universe as you are made of the same stuff that makes up all of creation! It is all around you and in you, it makes up who you are and we are all made up of the same energy that is literally everything. This is not about any particular religion, but about the truth of nature that most of the wisdom traditions spoke about many thousands of years before we had the scientific knowledge to understand these things.

What does all this have to do with a mass awakening, you might ask? Throughout the centuries, certain individuals have been having awakening experiences. Thousands of years ago, it was one or two individuals that would awaken and they would teach the people from their experience and knowledge. Many rejected them and called them crazy. Others recognized the truth in their teachings and tried to live their lives according to these lessons.

As time went on, the number of people who would wake up became more and more. It wasn’t just a one or two over hundreds if not thousands of years. Handfuls of people would wake up in little pockets around the world. In the 20th century large portions of the world’s population have had awakening experiences and now many books have been written on the subject. We are nearing the end of the first quarter of the 21st century and the number of people who have had an awakening is vast, but still not everyone has had this experience…yet.

Here we are in 2020 and even though a large portion of the planet is becoming more aware of how connected we are with each other and living a life of love and compassion, there are still those who believe they are separate and only looking out for number one. If we are to evolve to the next level of human existence, we must wake up. This has happened in our past as there have been evolutionary jumps in consciousness before. We are on the precipice of yet another quantum jump in the evolutionary process. We are collectively becoming more than we have been individually. Greater than the sum of our parts. The more people that wake up, the more it happens exponentially. It spreads throughout the collective consciousness. It is a ripple effect that gets larger the farther out it goes, like the ripple formed by a pebble being thrown in a lake. The ring gets larger the more it travels out from the center.

Unfortunately, it has taken a tragic world-wide epidemic to help accelerate this process of awakening of the human consciousness, but it also couldn’t happen the way it is transpiring without the technology of social media. It has connected us in ways we have never been before in the history of the human race. We can talk to each other from all over the planet and do so instantly, either one on one, or in a group. We have teleconferences with others from all over the world and it is as though we are all in the same room. This has made our world a very small place indeed.

There are many ways to wake up and not everyone has the same experience. Some people could just be sitting on a mountain, watching a beautiful sunrise and suddenly have an awakening. Maybe gazing out on the Milky Way, out in the middle of nowhere, and feeling so small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things and suddenly becoming aware of being One with all of creation. Some it just happens through meditation. Then there are those, like myself, that were so locked into the illusion, that in order to wake up, needed a traumatic event to do so. For me, it was the death and horrible suffering of my infant daughter that did it for me, but still I had to have a heart attack first and hit the depth of despair before I could suddenly wake up.

To bring this all to a conclusion of mass awakening. We are on the verge of reaching critical mass as more and more people wake up. Like I said before, it is happening exponentially and we have to reach a certain point in the number of people who are in a higher conscious state in order for the whole human race to make that evolutionary jump. This is happening as it has happened before. Some of you will read this and think I have gone off the deep end. I can hear what you are thinking. All I can say to you is go do a little bit of research and see if these things are not true (quantum mechanics, consciousness, non locality, wave and particle function, etc), but better yet learn how to deeply meditate to the point of letting go of who you ‘think’ you are. You never know what might happen. It’s okay though, as some of you will wake up just from us reaching critical mass. After all, we are connected and are the same collective consciousness.

What we are going through right now on this planet isn’t good, but in the end, I believe good will come of it. If nothing more, may we become more compassionate with our fellow humans. Life will never be the same, we are not going back to ‘the way things were’ and that is a good thing. We will have something better. We will be more aware and considerate of each other. We will learn a new way of living and seeing our world. Personally, I see this as a good thing. Be encouraged and seek your truth.
